Described as one of the ten most important buildings in England. The interior, which was substantially reordered in the 1980s is focussed around a central stone altar, carved by Henry Moore in travertine marble which stands on a beautiful white marble floor. The circular pews are removable.
Below the church is a small crypt with brick arches which was the birthplace of The Samaritans, the world’s first telephone helpline. The ministry of the church continues to focus on wellbeing and mental health today.
A hidden gem within the city.
